As you can see some of the individual day courses listed below are in part covered on the two day course but we can add or remove items according to the needs of the group. If you want to do something headed below but over two days please ask and we will see what we can do. Backwoods cooking We teach the skills necessary to safely cook on an open fire, with or without utensil's a number of diferant meals, also how to use a Dutch oven, make bread, gut and cook fish, . We also teach camp kitchen layout, hygiene, food storage, and using camp gas cookers etc. ![]() Camp Gadgets In backwoods camping we use a number of camp gadgets, these are things made at camp, to make camp life easier and can include something to sit on, to something to sleep on, or things to use in the camp kitchen, or for camp cooking. ![]() Making and using camp ovens There are a number of camp ovens you can make and use at camp, we can show you how to make and use some of them. It could be something simple like improvising a billy, to making a clay oven, or even digging a pit oven or Hangi. This course would also include Instruction in site selection and setting a fire for use with oven/utensils. ![]() ![]() Shelter building both naturel and improvised There are a number of ways to pitch a basher or build an improvise shelter and we can show you some of the more common ones, using tarps, bashers, poncho's, and ground sheets, for sleeping under, or for use as utility shelters. Another form of shelter is built using naturel materials, and we can show you how to build something for short overnight stops, or something a little bigger for a base camp use, or longer stays. ![]() Safe use of Axes and Saw We run Courses dealing with the correct use of both saw and axe that cover the things in the list.

Clearing your site and safety. We can also do sharpening and maintaining your
axe and knife. Tree recognition and different burning qualities of

We can also do sharpening and maintaining your axe and knife. ![]() Different fire lighting techniques. we would also incorporate this with Camp safety and layout. We start with camp safety and layout, with the emphasis being on the dangers of fire, having established a safe area for our fire we will then go though the diferant techniques to lighting a fire, and the materials necessary to achieve it. Every one will then have the opportunity to practise themselves and reap the fruits of their labour. ![]() The camp Fire The fire is an important part of camp life and we can show you a number of diferant type's you can uses at camp, including the Star fire, the Trappers or Hunters, the trench and Keyhole, the Reflector or even the Alter, all these fires have diferant uses at camp. We can also show you how to adapt these fires for diferant cooking techniques, and instruct you on the diferant implements and gadgets you can make or use to make cooking easy. We will also show you how to prepare and set your fire, collect kindling, and the diferant types and sizes of wood to sustain a good fire Team Building, Knots and Lashings all come under the heading of Pioneering. Pioneering is ideal for learning leadership skills and team building, we teach the basic knots and lashings, to construct trestles and A frame's, and do more advanced courses teaching you to build a number of construction's including bridges, towers, rafts, cranes and lifting equipment. You can learn how to set up and use blocks and tackle, and all the safety aspects, including Risk Assessment, and how to look after the equipment. There are a number of problem solving scenario's that we can setup, that are perfect for testing and developing physical and mental dexterity, leadership, and team work. We can organise Team Building Corporate days using pioneering. We can Incorporate pioneering with basic backwoods camping making a very interesting weekend. Pioneering is an interesting alternative for Schools and Youth Groups, not only for improving team work, but also developing basic construction skills. ![]() ![]() Courses for Scouts and Scout Leaders, or youth organisations. We can organise a number of diferant training courses and weekends to accommodate Scouts, and Leaders, in most aspects of Scouting, from greenfield camping to pioneering, including equipment needs and maintenance, Health and Safety, program planning, and Risk assessment. If you have something you want to do then perhaps we can give you some advise, or help you organise it, all you have to do is ask.
